I loved his stories. They seem to be out of fashion these days which is a pity because they are quite good. I am not into geocaching myself but I know that people enjoy it. As long as they don't tramp over the wildflowers here, I don't mind them doing it!Kay G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07228498846814735537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6429013260986201371.post-87220841263728760872019-01-07T09:47:43.003+00:002019-01-07T09:47:43.003+00:00Your description of camping near Horton in Ribbles...Your description of camping near Horton in Ribblesdale sounds like my worst nightmare - when young I could cope but not now. The hut in Buckden looks much more appropriate. I can cope with being out in the cold during the day, but at night time comfort is paramount.Rosemaryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03814070177137076757noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6429013260986201371.post-19245199542271279342019-01-06T17:18:07.868+00:002019-01-06T17:18:07.868+00:00Hi Anabel,

I have waded and paddled in small boats into winter huts and bothies during extensive flooding in past years, which was at least exciting and adventurous, so a bit of mist was an improvement on other trips. Winter meets are always an adventure.blueskyscotlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09373718369702364265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6429013260986201371.post-64343408780082031512019-01-06T17:10:16.299+00:002019-01-06T17:10:16.299+00:00Hi Linda,

Drinking just makes me fall asleep now and I grudge paying money when I'm not around to enjoy the full effects.
Any time in the past when I had a rare liquid lunch before a hill it always seemed twice as hard and long. Never did it very often, even when young, for that reason. blueskyscotlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09373718369702364265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6429013260986201371.post-80379636022386677562019-01-06T00:16:20.713+00:002019-01-06T00:16:20.713+00:00Might have just been Buckden Carol but I did see o...Might have just been Buckden Carol but I did see other references to hunting around the area which surprised me with the sealed off fields and the largely treeless upper moors that I didn't think would harbour much in the way of large four footed wildlife expect in past times. Maybe Buckden being deer related in its origins when sheltering woodlands were commonplace.blueskyscotlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09373718369702364265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6429013260986201371.post-47168076391362890462019-01-05T22:06:07.202+00:002019-01-05T22:06:07.202+00:00We head up to Yorkshire the weekend before Xmas ev...We head up to Yorkshire the weekend before Xmas every year and the weather always seems grey and gloomy. Been a long while since I was in this part though. I climbed Buckden Pike once, in a blizzard, after a four-pint lunchtime session, an epic day!Andyhttp://surfnslide.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6429013260986201371.post-39586059053307982032019-01-05T17:01:40.308+00:002019-01-05T17:01:40.308+00:00Hmmm - not sure there is more hunting in the Yorks...Hmmm - not sure there is more hunting in the Yorks Dales than other areas - probably less than down south. But, if there is, it's a manifestation of the fact that hunting is a 'class issue', not a countryside issue as claimed. Many middle classes have bought their way into the Yorkshire Dales from the cities and think they should hunt. Most country folk don't bother - we like wildlife on the whole...

Yorkshire was always bleak - especially the hills. Funnily enough, I did Great Whernside with my club last New Year's Day (in similar weather).

One part of The Railway Children was filmed at our local (when I lived there anyway) railway junction - the part where the tree slides down the embankment. I'm surprised you can't see us brats lingering in the background watching!Carolhttp://www.mountaincowardadventures.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
