Trahenna Hill and Quothquan Law.

30th January 2011

Alex.

Just a quick trip report to ease the backlog :)

Nothing to promising weatherwise today so we decided to stay local and low.A quick jaunt down to the Biggar area for Trahenna Law with Bob and John K.
The summits were clear and it didn`t rain but there was a baltic wind which is why there isn`t even a summit pic.
We parked in the community hall car park on the edge of the village and then took the track up to Broughton Place.I`m sure this is a misprint and should be Broughton Palace as it it is one huge pile of a country house.

Wandered up the glen ....

...and then took the shoulder up to Hammer Head and followed the ridge around to the cairn. You can see Bob protecting his face from the cold wind in this pic....

Ten minutes in a nook below the summit was enough for us and we headed off due south to have a look at the old fort for a while before following what seemed to be an old railway line back along the banks of the River Tweed to Broughton. Scotland acted the pig once more and as we arrived back at the car the sun came out :) Not wanting to waste it we wondered what to do.A few years ago I had watched the sunset from Quothquan Law and suggested we do the same again.

The River Clyde snakes it`s way northwards from  Quothquan Law.....

John at the top waiting for the sunset..

Alas, after some nice late evening light the sunset didn`t really turn out to be anything special.

Sun sets behind Tinto....

So,it was time we headed for home....

It's a nice van you have ;-)

Beautiful pictures!

You could do with one of these yourself Auntie Gwen for scooting around Albions Plain in the course of your work. Being a diesel it returns an excellent mpg :)

Maria,it is inded a nice van,thank you.!
It is sometimes a little hard to start on cold winters mornings though... other than that it runs just fine :)

Must get my map and check where Quothquan Law is....looks like a good viewpoint. I like the Broughton hills, the round of Trahenna Hill and Broughton Heights is great, you could imagine that you were in the highlands.

Quothquan is a nice evening stroll Neil.
Agree about the Broughton hills being just like the Highlands...fantastic wee range which punch above their weight. That was my second visit but will have to return on a goo day.!

This looks an ideal trip for me, given that the legs have just died...again (lol). I am worried however that, given the photographic evidence, my vehicle may age prematurely during my visit.

Your legs and my foot....maybe we should team up for rambling type thingies :)I know....trig points with geocaches..!
Looks like I`ll be crocked for the summer with some sort of foot injury.
Metatarsal problem the doctor says but I don`t think he has a clue.Physio date in May....

Sorry to hear that Alex :( .
Nothing worse than foot and leg injuries when your hobby is walking. What sort of limits do you have with the foot?

Yep...it's the fallback of geocaching for me - I've already done a few (lol). I'm going to have to keep off the hills now unless it's a really short ascent of a very minor bump. Looking to do the walk-ins though...lots of places I still want to see.

No probs meeting up for the self-destruct geocaching rambles - give me a shout when you can make it past the front door (lol).
