In silky silence...
the soft wind slinks...
into the bedroom...
of Astrid Obeljinx.
She feels it enter...
as she brushes her hair...
so closes the window...
smoothes down the sheets...
walks into the dark hallway...
performs daily repeat...
her repetitive cycle...
of a life in retreat...
Some ancients might whisper...
she was once derailed by a man...
her freedoms signed away...
likewise her inheritance...
by a trusted acquaintance... who left her in there...
damned by another, gaslighted and tragic...
to a forgotten end.
Who put her in this building...?
by which means did she approach...?
questions lost in the darkness....
so answers seldom occur...
she still walks in the dark hallways...
through the woodlands of her mind...
searching for answers...
still sniffing a trail...
yearning for some sweet cottage in the trees...
a place to put her troubled soul at rest...
and the Judy finally finds the Janus...

Fabulous juxtaposition of words and images, playing guess the location with some of them.
Hi Anabel,
Thanks. I had a lot of miscellaneous photos in a file and remembered a 1960s case of how easy it was for a male, (husband, brother or father)with the right connections to get a women or girl looked at for mental incapacity or immorality,(Magdalene Laundries, Asylums, etc) easier than a women trying to do the same to a man. A hangover from Victorian times and attitudes so I decided to blend the two together to make a story. Not her real name of course.
Chilling explanation to Anabel there (above)- didn't realise that was what it was about but did know that used to happen...
Some weird and wonderful images there. Is that a stoat or a pinemarten (don't think we have those in England?) and where did you take that photograph?
Cheers Carol,
thought I'd do something different for a change. It's a stoat at its den entrance on Loch Lomondside, usually a very comfy hole fur lined with rabbit pelts after the insides have been eaten. Natural recycling at its best. No waste.
I tried to fit the photos to the story, hence the crocodile/ Janus creeping up on the unsuspecting bird/girl to do them harm so all the other photos have a meaning behind them as well. Dante's Inferno and all that being an obvious touchstone as a journey downwards...
I was going to ask the same question as Carol - you were really fortunate to see the Stoat, and even more important, lucky enough to capture it.
Interesting story - thanks too for the explanation of how it came about.
Hi Rosemary,
yes, it was pure luck. I've seen quite a few stoats and weasels but they rarely stand still long enough for a photo. This one was guarding it's den so was static for a minute- very rare for that family group. I could take much better animal shots if I had a larger, more expensive camera, time and endless patience but I prefer a pocket model so I can keep on the move over a wider range of genres. Wandering housing schemes with a large obvious camera slung round my neck is asking for trouble as well so the pocket version is more discreet for urban exploration.
That would have taken me forever to find the right photos to go with the words! Well done.
